Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is an American television journalist, commentator and anchor for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language from University of Pennsylvania. In the year 1967, Mitchell was hired as a reporter at KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. She was a reporter for the CBS subsidiary WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. The following year, she was general reporter at NBC News in Washington. Beginning in 1981, she began covering the White House and became chief congressional correspondent in 1988. In 1992, she was appointed chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 chief foreign affairs reporter at NBC News. Mitchell hosted and participated as an expert panelist on the TV program Meet the Press. Mitchell joined the panel in 1988's presidential debates that pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to honor her achievements in the field of journalism. In 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award to recognize of her contribution to defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the very first reporter to write about White House stories for NBC News during the presidency of Ronald Reagan in office from 1981 to 1988. She reported on a variety of notable stories, including arm control, budget tax reform and the Iran-contra scandal. She also traveled extensively along with President Reagan to summits with Mikhail Gorbachev and other world leaders.
